The Nitty Gritty

Location: Royal National Park
Distance: 3.9 km (one way)
Trail style: Return
Grade: Easy

Park at Wattamolla car park, but arrive early as car parks are full by mid-morning.

Highlights of this walk:

  • Wattamolla beach/cliff
  • Wattamolla dam
  • Little Marley beach

This is a spectacular coastal walk, best done on a warm summer’s day, or during winter during whale watching season. Take a dip at Little Marley (unpatrolled beach with strong currents, so only for those comfortable in the water or with ocean swimming experience). I recommend saving Wattamolla Dam for the return journey – because you’ll be sweaty and there’ll be nothing more refreshing then washing the salt water from Little Marley off into the dam. Then there’s only an 800 m walk back to Wattamolla Beach.
