A weekend or two ago it was a warm autumn day – but I had received some intel that there was a thermocline running behind Bare Island. Had beads of sweat pouring down my face before reaching the bridge across to the Island wearing both my lavacore and wetsuit, desperately aching to get in the water to cool down. Sure enough, we jumped in and the temperature was a cool 17 degrees celcius. Brrrrr. We entered at low tide so the vis wasn’t the best (2-3m), on the Inner West, but once we reached the Outer West side of the Island (and the thermocline), it cleared up to about 10 metres.
